UNDERSTANDING COLOR TECHNOLOGY

The information below is intended to explain the basics of color technology as it relates to Digital Office Equipment, Full Color Copiers, Printers, etc..
-Full Color Digital Copiers, Printers and MFP's utilize the Subtractive CMYK Color Model ( Cyan - Magenta - Yellow - blacK ) for printing.
-TV & Computer monitors use the Additive RGB Color Model ( Red -Green - Blue ).
-Both color models above use various degrees of their basic colors to produce other color tones.

COLOR DEPTH

Beyond resolution, the quality of an image is its Color Depth, which is expressed in "Bits". Bits are an expression of binary data and the number of bits in an image is an expression of the number of colors that are possible in each pixel of the image. Therefore,
-8 Bit color, each pixel would have the potential of 256 different color tones. ( HD Color )
-4 Bit color would have only 16 different color tones per pixel,
-2 Bit color would have 4 different color tones per pixel.
The lower bit color, 2 & 4 Bit, will produce images with a grainy look, with rougher edges, etc and the color will consist of just your basic color tones.

The 8 Bit color will provide you with a greater range of color images, more accurate color tones or shades of color and a smoother appearance.

TONER

Extensive research & testing has been performed on the quality of the color image as it relates to the size of the color toner particle. PAPER

The quality of your paper will have an effect on the quality of the finished product. Basic copy paper is generally 20 lb with 86% Brightness; your color image might appear dull with this type of paper. Using a nice 20-24 LB Laser Paper with 113% Brightness, provides a clean, white background for the color image to be very bright, clean and vibrant.
